MFAT

P waves - three or more different shapes
Changing P-P, P-R, and R-R intervals
Atrial rhythm usually between 100 and 180 beats/min

A subset of atrial tachycardia, MAT occurs when multiple ectopic foci stimulate the atria.

CAUSES

ECG FINDINGS

TREATMENT & DISPOSITION

  1. Treat underlying disorder
  2. Specific anti-arrhythmic tx is rarely indicated. Rate control may be achieved in COPD or CHF exacerbation pt with:
  3. Magnesium Sulfate 2g IV over 60 sec followed by a constant infusion of 1 - 2 g/hr may decrease ectopy & convert MAT to sinus rhythm in some pts
  4. Replete potassium levels to > 4 mEq/L to increase myocardial membrane stability
