Indirect inguinal hernia: Direct inguinal hernia Femoral hernias
75% of all hernias!!!
-Most common hernia in both sexes!!!
-Men are 5x more common
-More likely to incarcerate/strangulate than direct
2nd most common  more common in women
- Located below inguinal ligament
- medial to femoral pulse
Note: You can NOT differentiate between Direct and indirect hernias on exam!!!

  1. If nontender, present <4 hrs & easily reducible pt may be discharged and seen by surgery as outpt
  2. Surgical consult and admit if tender, nonreducible & signs of obstruction present
