Treatment

  1. See "Seizures: general approach"
  2. If 1st time seizure, may defer anti-convulsants until neuro consult provided good f/u
     
  3. ABCs with airway support/O2
  4. IV with NS for access/lab draws/chem studies
  5. Monitor pulse oximeter, EKG
  6. Correct primary abnormality as able (e.g. Ca for decr Ca)
  7. Anticonvulsants (see "Status epilepticus" for dosage)

Disposition

  1. For ongoing seizure admit to PICU; neurology consult
  2. For first seizure (controlled) admit
  3. Admit for further evaluation & observation,
  4. Neurology consultation
  5. For patient with specific medical etiology of seizure
  6. For patient with H/O seizure

Prognosis
