- Overgrowth of normal vaginal bacterial flora. Occurs in 10-25%
of pregnant women and is nearly always asymptomatic.
- Patients are generally asymptomatic; exam reveals a vaginal
discharge with a fishy odor.
- KOH whiff test; clue cells on wet mount.
- Vaginal discharge with pH > 4.5.
- Metronidazole 500 mg po bid x 7 days
- Clindamycin 300 mg po bid x 7 days
- Treatment does not appear to ↓ the
- Higher incidence of PPROM; spontaneous abortion; preterm birth.
