Synthetic Cannabinoids

Background
  1. Originally designed to facilitate research, synthetic cannabinoids (SC) are man-made chemicals engineered to stimulate cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2)
  2. SCs first appeared in Europe as illicit drugs in 2004 and the United States in 2009
  3. SCs are a heterogeneous group of chemicals with a common affinity for cannabinoid receptors but have unpredictable end-organ toxicities
