Pathophysiology

  1. Bullet penetration usually prevented
  2. Kinetic energy of missile is transmitted to tissues
  3. Essentially can cause significant blunt trauma
  4. Vulnerable tissues include

Clinical Findings

  1. Area of impact usually is ecchymotic, tender to palpation, and erythematous
  2. Projectile itself may still be located in wound
  3. Carefully examine / palpate the area and surrounding tissues
  4. Remember
  5. Look for

Diagnostic Imaging

  1. X-rays
  2. CT scanning

Treatment

  1. Treat any discovered injuries

Disposition

  1. Observe all victims closely
